High Efficiency Gas Fires

Gas Fires which are classed as High Efficiency, or glass fronted gas fires, require glass on the front to stop air being drawn out of the room by a chimney or flue system. By replacing an old inefficient chimney gas fire with a modern glass-fronted model you can benefit from the same heat at 40% of the cost, saving money. Gas is also 70% cheaper than burning wood. There are various styles of these gas fires, each requires a different installation method. The running costs, heat output and efficiency are comparable between all designs however the installation cost can vary greatly. To ensure you select the most cost effective design for your home call our sales team, Monday to Saturday, 9am to 6pm to discuss your requirements in detail. If you do not have a chimney and require high efficiency then we have balanced flue gas fires and power flue gas fires available.

The glass fronted gas fires shown below can be installed in to an existing chimney or in a new build property using a vertical flue liner. If in doubt about the most cost effective installation method call sales.

There are different installation types, starting with the cheapest install cost:

CHIMNEY : These fires are used in conjunction with and existing chimney and are the most cost effective installation. The fires can also be used in a new build property using a flue liner and false chimney breast. These fires can provide up to 4Kw of heat, however please note that due to the high efficiency in most homes 4kw is comparable to adding two electric fires in the room. The biggest benefit of High Efficiency Gas Fires is the reduced running costs. Examples are shown below.

FLUE LINER : If the flue pipe can be routed vertically then this is a cost effective installation for a new build property that does not have a brick chimney. The fire is installed in a flue box and the flue liner run off the box. A false chimney breast is built around the flue box. Examples are shown below.

BALANCED FLUE : These fires are for homes that do not have a chimney and the flue route cannot go vertically. The pipes can be routed upwards then horizontally and terminate on a side wall. A false chimney breast is then built around the appliance. There are various sizes and each size has a higher heat output up to a maximum of 12Kw. Balanced flue gas fires are best for large open plan properties which need heat rather than a visual effect. Read more about Balanced Flue Gas Fires.

POWER FLUE : These fires are suitable for properties where a vertical flue cannot be used and the pipes can be routed in multiple directions, even under the floor. The power flue pipes are either 54mm or 80mm in diameter and can have a maximum length of 40m. The power flue fires can also be used in the centre of a room as freestanding. There are various sizes and each size has a higher heat output up to a maximum of 12Kw. Read more about Power Flue Gas Fires

Our Glass Fronted Gas Fires will save you money, here’s why:

EXISTING : 6.0kw open gas fire – running cost = 27p/hour & heat in the roomn is 1.5kw
NEW : 3.6kw FR600-HE gas fire – running cost = 16p/hour & heat in the room is 3kw.

That’s twice the heat for 60% of the cost. To get the same heat from an electric heater it would cost you 45p/hour.
